Description
The Butler’s Thief Bottle Opener removes any cork without damaging it. It makes a great alternative to using a corkscrew. If the cork is old, crumbling or even a little broken already then this is the tool you need. Ideal for bottle of vintage wine do not need the addition of crumbling cork.
The device has two prongs one longer than the other. Removing a cork is easy. Firstly, slide the longer prong between the bottle and cork. Then continue with the second side and slide both prongs down until the top of the gadget touches the cork. Once both prongs are gripping the cork then, using a twisting motion, pull up and slide the cork from the bottle using the sturdy handle. You will find the cork comes out surprisingly easily.
The Butler’s Thief Bottle Opener is also known as the Butler’s Friend or the Ah-So cork remover. In France they call them the Maitre d’s corkscrews. The idea is that the dishonest butler or maitre d can use this tool to carefully remove the cork from a good bottle of wine. He then replaces the good wine with a cheaper substitute and re-inserts the cork and the diner is none the wiser!
If you enjoy using a more conventional opener why not take a look at one of our corkscrews. We stock an easy to use Pullparrot featuring our own tasting notes and a stylish stainless steel version of the Screwpull. For a really special gift we have a French Ligne corkscrew with a handle made from old oak wine barrel.
