A Hotel for Wine Lovers

The vineyard berkshire spa

With over 30,000 bottles of wine…….

We recently discovered The Vineyard Hotel and Spa in Berkshire.   It’s a haven for anyone with an interest in wine and it chimes perfectly with the inspiration behind Top Note Design.  Fabulous wine teamed with elegant design.

Owned by the industrialist, winemaker and Capital FM founder, Sir Peter Michael, the Vineyard is dedicated to all things wine.   The luxurious bedrooms are each named after a different red or white wine and decorated accordingly.  The service is wonderful.   Even more exciting is the 30,000 bottle wine cellar which you can view from the lobby through its glass ceiling.  Such an incredible feature it is worth a visit just to see this and while you are there perhaps to sample a couple of glasses.

With over 100 wines served by the glass we took the opportunity to try some over a delicious light lunch.

Given the hotel’s Californian connections we chose glasses of Voignier from Tepusquet Vineyard and the Domaine de la Terre Rouge, Rousanne.  Both were complex and delicious.  Our continuing attempt to find a non alcoholic alternative to wine was less successful.  The 2014 Torrès, Muscat Natureo tasted a little too sweet and grape juice like for me.

A collection of more than 500 artworks adorns the walls.  Works include the Gary Myatt’s, The Judgement in Paris.  This depicts the famous Paris wine tasting organised Steven Spurrier which is seen as the moment Californian wine began to be a major player in the wine industry. The Vineyard also houses the largest collection of work by the Franco-Russian Cubist, Boris Smirnoff

There’s lots going on at The Vineyard in the next few months from themed dinners to tasting events and masterclasses.  We are hoping to be a part of Vinefest in September. A weekend extravaganza of wine, food and fun.  More details coming soon.
